MICROCHAMBER INTERLEAVING SHEETS
These
are the same sheets used by the
comic grading companies and are ultra-thin! Designed to hold onto harmful atmospheric pollutants that can lead to acidity,
they also prevent printing oils from seeping into the covers making whites appear yellow,
vibrant colors appear dull and your
book appear older and less vibrant than it really is. By using these sheets,
you can preserve the original look and luster of your entire collection!
Here is an example of a beautiful Spider-man #1. Oh the left, the book has aged due to oil migration to the cover from the interior pages. Without any protection, this copy has become dull, lifeless and the colors are not very vibrant.
On the right is the SAME book, after the oils have been removed. Restoration experts charge $50 a book to remove the oils. By placing two Microchamber sheets (one between the cover and interior pages and the other between the back cover and interior pages) this treatment would never have been necessary.
This is a graduated cylinder from a recent solvent cleaning! On the left is the cylinder, with new, unused, solvent. The book to be treated is washed with the solvent and the oils are removed. On the right, is the same solvent after the oils have been removed from the cover!!! What a spectacular difference!!!
Microchamber paper would prevent this amount of oil from ever reaching the covers of your books, preventing them from appearing yellow and dull.
There are 2 sizes always available, Golden Age and Silver Age. Modern age books, because of the improvement in printing inks and the higher quality paper rarely need microchamber protection. For other collectibles (such as pulp magazines, regular magazines, etc.) custom sizes are available. This interleaving tissue is acid-free and ultra-thin, so there will be no problems with inserting these between the covers of the items you are trying to preserve.

Mylar is a crystal-clear, inert plastic that does not degrade over time. Polypropylene and polyethylene bags (as well as other forms of plastic such as saran) can contain harmful additives that, over time, leach out onto the items they are supposed to be protecting! These additives then go on to form acidic compounds, thus eventually harming the paper within the envelope. Only Mylar is inert with no additives and is ideal for the preservation of paper! Several sizes are offered, but if you need custom sizes - just contact us with your request!!!

A backing board is basically a piece of cardboard designed to support and protect an item while it is in a bag. However, ordinary cardboard is just not good enough as it contains acids that will eventually destroy anything it touches. It is important to use non-acidic materials when storing paper. The boards featured here are thick (24mil) with a 3% calcium carbonate buffer. The calcium carbonate buffer stops acids from forming in the board thus they provide support for your paper collectibles and will not contribute to the acidic break-down of your items!!! Color is white/grey with a slightly matte surface.
